Project Background & Community Need

India reports nearly 70,000 new childhood cancer cases every year, the highest in the world. Yet survival rates remain starkly unequal: while children in developed countries achieve a 92% survival rate, in India it is only 54%.

For families in rural and low-income communities, the challenges are overwhelming:

Lack of nearby hospitals and treatment centres delays diagnosis.
Treatment costs range between ₹8–10 lakhs, far beyond the reach of most families.
Parents often sacrifice employment, education of siblings, and basic living needs to continue treatment.
Hidden non-medical expenses—travel, accommodation, food, and loss of income—compound the burden.

The result: many children lose their chance to survive not because families have no money, but because they lack enough resources to complete treatment. The emotional toll is devastating, and the financial impact cripples entire households.

Project Goals

The Raise of Hope initiative is designed to:

Provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment for children from below-poverty-line families.
Relieve parents of crushing economic hardship, enabling them to care for siblings and rebuild their lives.
Strengthen survival rates, ensuring children not only live but thrive—protecting future generations.
Partner with Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Coimbatore, to deliver advanced care at subsidized cost.

Project Activities

Dedicated Facility: A 30-bed exclusive unit at KMCH Institute of Health Sciences and Research.
Beneficiary Identification: Rotary Clubs, NGOs, and KMCH collaborate to select children most in need.
Free Hospitalization & Treatment: Covering chemotherapy, medicines, and surgical costs.
Holistic Support: Advanced medical procedures, nutrition guidance, and recovery care.

Achievements So Far

Over the past 3 years, Raise of Hope has:

Treated 54 children from economically disadvantaged families.
Achieved a 99.9% survival success rate (only one child lost).
Lifted the economic burden from 54 families, allowing them to educate siblings and regain stability.
Eliminated the constant fear and mental agony parents faced during treatment.
